Malaysian Nyonya Asam Fish (Tamarind Fish Curry)
Ingredients
For cooking
- 1 Mackerel Fish (cleaned)
- ½ Tomato (cut into wedges)
- ½ stick Lemon Grass
- 2 pieces dried Tamarind (soaked)
For Sauce (Blended)
- 6-8 dried chilies (soaked)
- ½ medium Onion
- ½ cm Galangal / Ginger
- 1 cm Turmeric
- 1 stick Lemon grass
- 2-3 Candlenuts
- 2-3 cloves Garlic
Others
- Sugar, Salt to taste
Preparation
- Blend all ingredients for sauce with some water into a paste
- Heat some vegetable oil and fry blended ingredients until fragrant.
- Add 1 cup water, then add the Lemon Grass and Tamarind slices. Bring to the boil.
- Add Fish and cook for a few minutes on both sides.
- Add tomato and cook slightly to soften the tomato.
- Let the fish rest for 20 minutes before serving
- Enjoy with rice!
